Deadmau5, Kaskade, Above & Beyond Confirmed for Veld Festival

Last summer Ink Entertainment brought the first annual Veld Music Festival to Toronto's Downsview Park with a huge array of headliners that brought smiles to everyone's faces. After being missing from the touring circuit for many months, the scene's notorious cynic and Toronto native, Joel Zimmerman, agreed to play the hometown show in a rare appearance. This year the promoters are back early in the Spring with the first round of headliners, and it seems quite impressive so far. Kaskade, Above & Beyond, and Deadmau5 are now confirmed for the festival's second year which will be taking place over the weekend of August 3rd and 4th. Tickets go on sale next Thursday April 4th at, so be sure to snag yours, and we'll try to see if we can get a giveaway going like last year.

Saturday 8/4/2012

Picking and choosing between DJs will prove difficult on Saturday. If I covered them all, this would be an essay, so here are some I'd like to highlight.

DVBBS [Electro House] (Bacardi Tent 1-2pm) Toronto natives DVBBS will kick the party off in the Bacardi Tent Saturday afternoon. The electro house duo is fresh off the IDentity Fest tour, and have new tracks in the works. Listen for the guys to drop new material as well as their hot originals including "DRVGS" and "Dance Bitch" (below).

Michael Woods [Big Room / Progressive House] (Main Stage 3:30-4:30) Michael Woods absolutely smashed it at EDC Vegas. Don't miss this energetic set when he takes the Canadian big city by storm!

Krewella [Dubstep / Electro] (Bacardi Tent 4-5pm) 2012 has been a busy year for the trio! Releasing the Play Hard EP amongst a plethora of other solid records, Krewella is sure to have the bass thumpin'!

Knife Party [Dubstep] (Main Stage 6:30-7:30pm) You're living under a rock if you don't know Knife Party. Releasing one banging track after the next, this is a heart-racing, mind-blowing set that you have to experience for yourself to really believe. Get ready to rage!

Tommy Trash [House] (Bacardi Tent 8-9pm) Known for destroying every remix he touches and notorious for his riotous live sets,  I can promise you an AMAZING time if you see Tommy Trash. Prepare to headbang :)

Deadmau5 [A Genre of His Own] (Main Stage 9:15-11pm) I've been to many Deadmau5 shows, but this will be the first time I'll see him play a festival. I'm anxious to see him take the stage in Toronto where he currently resides, because knowing Joel he will undoubtedly have some tricks up his sleeve. Deadmau5 will be closing Saturday night with no other artists competing with his time slot, so there is no excuse for missing it!

Sunday 8/5/2012

Swanky Tunes [House] (Main Stage 3-4pm) Currently killing the EDM game is the Russian trio Swanky Tunes! I've been continuously impressed by their recent releases, and I have not seen these guys live yet so I'm certainly not going to miss them this Sunday!

Pierce Fulton [House] (Bacardi Tent 3:30-4:30pm) I'm excited to see this young prodigy throw down! There's nothing I love more than a DJ who genuinely loves what they do, and you can definitely expect passion and high energy from Fulton on Sunday.

Gareth Emery [Trance / Progressive House] (Bacardi Tent 7:30-9pm) Combining trance, house and progressive into one set, Gareth Emery was one of my favorite acts at EDC NY. He possesses the coveted ability to command a crowd in a way that not many DJs can. I highly recommend you stop by this set, you won't be disappointed.

Bassnectar [Dubstep] (Main Stage 7:45-8:45pm) I've seen Bassnectar a couple of times now, and he is always incredible live. Lorin drops bass - IN YOUR IN YOUR FACE!

Avicii [Progressive House / Trance] (Main Stage 9-11pm) Closing out the festival is Avicii. The Swedish producer has become a household name, and for a good reason! However tired of his records you may be, I have yet to see anything less than an epic and surprisingly bass-heavy set from Avicii, and you do not want to miss it.

"There Might be Coffee" - Deadmau5

Deadmau5 has finally delivered the coffee… and just in time for the Veld Music Festival in Toronto where he is a headlining act alongside Avicii, Bassnectar, and more (full preview coming tomorrow!). Melodic and uplifting as mau5 tracks are known to be, "There Might Be Coffee" features an energetic mixture of thumping bass, percussion, and warm synths. Equipped with that signature "Deadmau5 sound," the track takes me to a different state of mind; simply stated, it's beautiful. Unofficially released on Deadmau5's soundcloud, he produced the track in front of millions of fans on his ustream, but it's sure to be a highlight of his new album in the works. Grab your favorite cup of Tim Horton's and let the music take you away! And if you're a Mau5head like me, check out this great interview by Canada's CBC which really gives you a feel for Joel Zimmerman.
