Throwback Thursday: Tiesto Essential Mix (Amnesia Ibiza 2005)

Let me first point out that the comments on the BBC page for this (below) were too great, pointing out that there will always be internet trolls whether it's 2005 or 2013 - or in the UK. The very thought of seeing "DJ Tiësto" back in '05 at Amnesia should be entirely masochistic to any dance music fanatic, so I apologize in advance for any pain inflicted. The tracklist is pretty murky on this one but you shouldn't really need one with "DJ Tiësto" in the mix tonight.

"United" - Tiesto, Alvaro, Quintino (Ultra Music Festival Anthem)

Let me just say: TIESTO IS BACK!!! I have always had a lot of respect for Tijs as a truly versatile producer, but on the other hand I'm not a huge fan of DJs playing almost identical sets throughout their tours. On top of that he's put out quite a few flops in my opinion in recent months. But this is not one of them. This is the Ultra Music Festival anthem. Just as epic as the festival iteself, "United" is a story of us party animals bonded together by dance. I'm very glad Alvaro is coming to the spotlight after being picked up by Musical Freedom and frankly putting out a lot better mixes than the Godfather himself lately, and the addition of Quintino makes this feel a lot dirtier than the campy Indie pop remixes Tiesto's been pushing lately. After playing this, I can feel it! Can you feel it?!

"Make Some Noise" (Skidka Remix) - Tiesto & Swanky Tunes

The reason Tiesto makes more than most professional athletes is because of the brand he's established over the years. With the rise of Electronic Dance Music Tijs made the decision to ditch his Trance productions (and the "DJ" prefix") and work towards aggressively taking over the dominating Progressive sound. His own curated brand under Musical Freedom launched back when he and Diplo collabed on "C'Mon" and has since grown into a powerhouse in the scene. With a competitive advantage comes leverage to do more and to bring more people like the Russian trio Swanky Tunes to the spotlight, but in this case it also means giving back. If you didn't know already, Tiesto has been a huge advocate for (Red), the campaign for a generation free of AIDS. This remix, first featured on Dance (Red), Save Lives but was now just released today alongside Dyro's remix which is also worth a listen. I for one think Skikda totally tackled this one head on, especially as a completely unknown artist. You can bet you'll be hearing this as one of Miami Music Week's hottest tracks.

Preview: "Chasing Summers" - Tiesto (R3hab & Quintino Remix)

Preview alert! We wish this were the finalized track because it's that good, but for now the Amsterdam Dance Event rip will have to do. On this one seasoned DJs R3hab and Quintino team up to hit us with a jacked remix of Tiesto's festival anthem "Chasing Summers." As an already massive production, it's great to see these two take on the classic and turn it into an explosively hot new dance track. Not only will this sweaty banger bring you back to memories of the original but will blow you away with the crazy bass and warehouse sound the duo blends into the mix. Get ready for the finished product set to drop March 5th!

Track of the Day: "Loose" - Showtek & Noisecontrollers (Tiesto Remix)

Sometimes amazing stuff slips under the cracks, and this took a lot of digging but I'm glad I found it. Set for a huge release this Winter is Showtek's massive followup to "Cannonball" with Noisecontrollers in the form of "Loose." Though the days of Hardstyle for Showtek have come and gone, you can still hear remnants of the good old days in tracks like this. While the Original Mix is still closely under wraps, Tiësto dropped his remix in a few recent sets and set off the crowds. Expect to hear this banger on heavy replay this Spring!
