Mountain Oasis Summit Headed For Asheville Halloween Weekend

The Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit will be making its inaugural debut this Halloween weekend in the vibrant city of Asheville, North Carolina. The Oasis is programmed and produced by the profound production team, AC Entertainment, which has brought to life events such as the incomparable Bonnaroo Music Festival, as well as Forecastle Music Festival in Louisiville, Kentucky. The summit will be sharing homebase with the highly praised Moogfest Music Festival, which has spread smiles across Southern music-loving faces since 2010. The 3-day music festival will be focusing on the fusion of art, music, and you the audience, with talks, seminars, and panels for the festgoer to indulge in, as well as, interactive experiences, including art installations and exhibitions.

This may be the first year that the world has become acquainted with the Summit, but it has already completely outdone itself in delivering a comprehensively mindblowing lineup. The weekend is capped with some heavyhitter headliners, including, Pretty Lights and Bassnectar. Browsing through the rest of the lineup, one will find an eclectic variety of artists from Disclosure, Jessie Ware, Animal Collective, Darkside, Shlohmo, XXYYXX, Jaques Greene, and many more rounding out the weekend's jam packed schedule. I, for one, am so excited to finally dance through the universe of "BassLights" for the first time. It has been long overdue, and I know that they will take me and the rest of the attendees to places that we never knew existed. I hope to see some of your there - let's get lost in the Oasis together!

"Around The Block" (Kredo Remix) - Pretty Lights

Swiss producer Kredo is here to slap a smile right on your face in his latest remix for Pretty Lights' biggest track off of A Color Map of The Sun. Tightening the tempo and adding in plenty of glitch and breaks transforms Talib Kweli's sleepy summertime jam into a vibrant and uptempo celebration of optimism and life. Grab the free download!

"Yellow Bird" - Pretty Lights [Music Video]

I had mixed thoughts of Pretty Lights' newest album, but all criticisms aside, every one of the tracks on the free new album showcase Derek's dexterity as a musical technician. Layering vintage-sounding vocals with scratchy samples and live instrumentation, PL forges a hazy trip of a record that lacks a consistent vibe. The album's biggest strengths are the tracks which evoke a funky yet still relaxing atmosphere as opposed to the other half that comes off a bit frantic. For me "Yellow Bird" is the unmistakable highlight on A Color Map of the Sun, a game-changing gentle meditation over the sounds of summer and one of Derek's finest productions to date. The music video is equally enchanting - press play and take flight with us.

Bob Marley's Legend To Be Remixed by Pretty Lights & More

It's tough to get rights to songs as coveted as Bob Marley & The Wailers' Legend, much less to give them a dance music spin. Either way Ziggy & Stephen have given the go ahead to a Legend Remixed album, co-produced by the two brothers alongside one of LA's most prominent EDM radio jockeys Jason Bentley, who you may know as the man who lobbied to add a dance music category to the Grammys back in 2004. All suspicions aside, a quick look at the tracklist reveals some of dance music's best candidates for the job. Apart from the obvious Pretty Lights, whose successful remixing career has included takes on Led Zeppelin (the first track we posted on this site), is a long roster of producers who seem to fit the bill. I myself am really anticipating the RAC, Beats Antique, and Thievery Corporation takes on these classic reggae tracks. Surprises on the listing include mashup pioneer Z-Trip and Drum & Bass trailblazer Photek. The album is set for release on June 25 on Island/Def Jam.

1. Waiting In Vain (Jim James Remix)
2. Stir It Up (Ziggy Marley Remix)
3. Three Little Birds (Stephen Marley and Jason Bentley Remix)
4. Could You Be Loved (RAC Remix)
5. No Woman No Cry (Stephen Marley Remix)
6. Get Up Stand Up (Thievery Corporation Remix)
7. Satisfy My Soul (Beats Antique Remix)
8. I Shot The Sheriff (Roni Size Remix)
9. Exodus (Pretty Lights Remix)
10. Easy Skanking (Stephen Marley Remix)
11. One Love/People Get Ready (Photek Remix)
12. Redemption Song (Ziggy Marley Remix)
13. Is This Love (Jason Bentley Remix)
14. Jamming (Nickodemus and Zeb Remix)
15. Punky Reggae Party (Z-Trip featuring Lee “Scratch” Perry Remix)
16. Buffalo Soldier (Stephen Marley Remix)

Free Download: My Favorite Sets from Ultra Music Festival 2012

The anticipation is building. It's getting cold on the East Coast, and we're all thinking about spring, sun, and the amazing festival season that awaits us on the other end of this hell. Today I'm feeling nostalgic about last year's venture down south to Miami for Ultra, which was one of the best experiences of my life. So now I present you with some of my favorite live sets from last year's festival. Unfortunately I couldn't include quite all of them (KASKADE!) because of sound quality and availability, but this covers quite a few and will keep me satisfied until March rolls around.

Pretty Lights

I've seen Derek play quite a few times but this was by far the best performance I've seen from him. The live stage at last year's Ultra was made for PL. I'm hoping they pick the same if he shows up for on the 15th anniversary lineup.

Carl Cox

Blew my mind. This guy is incredible and since he doesn't tour around the US too much, you must see him at Ultra this year. Last year he played in the afternoon at his own stage, and it was perfect. Tech House at its very best. Be sure not to miss him this year.

Bingo Players

Fuck these two are good. I'm not much for the House that gets a lot of radio play, but these two pull it off more than any two I've seen. Last year's set was mindblowing, here's to hoping they make it out again this year.

The ASOT 550 setup was prime last year, and I'm hoping that it's the same this year for weekend 2. ATB did an astonishing performance for the radio show last year, you'll just have to hear to believe what I mean.

Fedde le Grand

This set alone probably sent Fedde from budding DJ to superstar. One of the sunniest, most happiest afternoons I can remember, with this as the soundtrack. Get sauced and blast this shit.

Dash Berlin

ASOT 550 was something for the books, and I loved getting down in the afternoon to the sound of Dash Berlin. The Expedition makes its grand return to Bayfront Park this March. See you there.
