Review: Sander van Doorn at Pacha NYC

Sander van Doorn stepped into the ring ready to win the crowd over at Pacha NYC on June 1st. It was the kickoff to a fun-filled summer with simply the best of EDM.

Sander van Doorn, one of the most significant creators leading the dance music industry, opened up the night with his newest, hit single "Nothing Inside," with a live performance from the soulful vocalist Mayaeni. The team's collaboration has landed them with the title of top 10 on Beatport! Then right into some Nicky Romero "Se7en" found its way pounding into our ears. Trailing soon after, Miike Snow’s "Devil’s Work" (Dirty South Remix) blasted through the speakers, amping up the crowd. SVD included yet another track from Miike Snow later in the set, "The Wave" (Thomas Gold Remix), which was met with similar excitement.

Sander van Doorn tossed into the mix his originals "Who’s Wearing the Cap," featuring Laidback Luke, "Drink To Get Drunk," and "Reach Out," which had everyone’s backs sweating, hearts pumping, and hands sky high!

It was truly refreshing to hear some new records on rotation catching the crowds attention, such as Cicada & Third Party's "Feel," and Eitro's "True Story." Then we got a taste of the likes of Porter Robinson's hit new single "Language," Hard Rock Sofa's "Quasar," and Tiësto & Hardwell's remix of Indie Rock group The Naked and Famous' "Young Blood," which kept the club ambiance bursting with life.

The highly anticipated moment finally arrived when Sander dropped "Love is Darkness," getting the crowd to chant along every lyric to the song, making obvious his standing amongst the Top 20 DJs in the world! A few tracks later, "Koko" coarsed its way through our veins, while all of Pacha jumped in unison as if the floor was a trampoline.

The way in which Sander van Doorn spins while sharing his big smile with the crowd is truly what holds the key to his skyrocketing success. He ended the night at 4 AM with confetti raining down from the ceiling after taking us all on a soaring rollercoaster ride. No matter what subgenre of EDM he plays, when Sander steps foot into the DJ booth it become apparent that it is his sanctuary. And I couldn't be happier to have gathered with this NYC crowd to share memories with him that will last a lifetime!

This Sunday in NYC: Knife Party @ Beekman Beach Club

We could not be more excited to see Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, aka Knife Party, coming to New York City this Sunday! Originally planned to be the debut act for Pacha's hyped Brooklyn Terminal Project, which is guaranteed to be the hottest new venue in the city upon opening, the Australian Electro House & Dubstep duo will be instead playing their set at Beekman Beach Club at South Street Seaport. Regardless of the venue change, Rob and Gareth will still be blasting their trademark sound in open air under the bright lights of the city.

After having their debut performance less than two years ago at the world-famous Space Ibiza, the two have rapidly climbed to the top of the EDM game by producing hard-hitting dubstep anthems with signature catchy lyrics and progressions. Having their roots in live music (the Drum & Bass band Pendulum) the two understand both how to get the crowd going, and the fundamentals of musical production.

Their set at Ultra Music Festival this year in Miami was nothing short of spectacular; the two definitely outdid the EDM poster-child Skrillex for best mainstage #BASS act. On top of a recent slew of great sets, last week's release of their new EP, Rage Valley (which we are proud to say we leaked) is guaranteed to make Sunday's show a crazy one. With unbelievable views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge, world-class event hosting by Pacha & RPM, and support by Nick Catchdubs, Alex English, Hellfire Machina, and Sazon Booya, this is going to be one hell of a party. We will be covering press at the event, so look for our official review with tracklist, event photos, and more early next week! And make sure to check out the Teaser Trailer below!
