Review: Avicii @ Radio City Music Hall NYC

In the center of the universe lies the legendary venue, Radio City Music Hall, which has been notorious for selling out different artists and acts since 1930. But never before has a DJ taken over this famous stage, let alone sell out the entire theater. On September 26, history was made as ravers packed the venue from orchestra to mezzanine, filling the historic space with neon, glowsticks, and not a single Rockette

On September 26th and 27th, Tim Berling, better known as Avicii, tore up the traditional stage, replacing the draped velvet curtains with lasers and visuals. He stood tall and proud on top of his signature white mask, elaborately decorated with wild aesthetically enhanced graphics all over the face. His set design and lighting included alluring effects and colors from rainbow images, all while a mesermising video of a swirling rollercoaster was projected onto the face's surface

The night started young with "Baba O’ Riley" by The Who, an unforgettable classic. Avicii hits such as, “Penguin”, “Silhouettes” and “Sunshine”, a collaboration with David Guetta, all had the crowd on other "levels" of life! He featured a range of tracks new and old, from Deadmau5 “The Veldt” to Janet Jackson “Go Deep”, which kept the crowd in constant excitement.  Other highlights from the night included, Robyn’s “Hang With Me (Avicii Club Mix)”, Jupiter Ace "Glowing in the Dark," and Nari & Milani’s "Atom".

This Friday in NYC: Porter Robinson & Zedd @ Pacha

Take heed ladies, there’s a storm this Friday 10/5 at Pacha that's about to blow your tops off. Roaring in on their Poseidon tour, EDM heartthrobs Porter Robinson and Zedd will be spinning a very special set late Friday night.

These two boys, while still fresh to the scene, have already made a huge splash in the EDM world in comparison to their fellow colleagues that have been spinning for years. While their charmingly boyish looks may have also been a contributing factor to their success, they are undoubtedly highly talented artists that know how to dish out the Electro House for a good time.

Fresh off his new album release, Clarity, Zedd couldn't have picked a greater time to come to New York City. This set is going to be full of hot new tracks and unreleased music that is sure to make fans eager to get their hands on a copy of the new record. Zedd manages to keep his style versatile with his signature touches of techno-glitch in his mixes on top of his already well-crafted Electro sound.

Keeping Zedd’s creativity on a roll is his counterpart and comrade, Porter Robinson. As a fellow North Carolinan, I must say that Porter Robinson's sudden and quick emergence was a surprise, but a valued one for all electro fans. Both high energy and quirky, Porter Robinson’s music was made for the twenty something party-goers like himself. Only 20 years old, Porter holds so much unexplored potential that I can’t wait to hear in the future.

I guess ultimately the big deal about this Friday night is that not only one, but both of these lovely men will be spinning b2b. NYC better get ready for the Poseidon tour, because the tsunami of sound is coming for us whether we're ready or not!

Halloween in NYC @ Pier 94 with Knife Party, Rusko, Tommy Trash, & More

I'm so glad NYC is getting a good dose of EDM this fall with countless events coming up and stacked lineups at the clubs for the coming few months. Halloween weekend in the big city is going to be dominated by EDM at the "Pier of Fear," being opened with a haunted performance Friday, October 26 from Destructo, Style of Eye, Bauuer (yes - Baauer!), Kill the Noise, Tommy Trash, and Knife Party! Close out your weekend Sunday the 28th with a cursed set from none other than Rusko, who more than adequately rolled the bass last time we saw him (at EZoo). We better be seeing all of you in costumes there! NOTE: RUSKO has been moved to Pacha NYC.

Tickets are now onsale for the Friday show. Get them here before prices go up!

Rusko tickets go onsale 9/21 at 12:00 PM EST at PierOfFear.com.

Tonight in NYC: John Dahlback, Danny Avila, & Oliver Twizt @ Pacha

John Dahlbäck has been on my list of top house producers for a while, although I haven’t had the chance to see him. This Friday, along side Danny Avila and Oliver Twizt, Dahlback takes over Pacha NYC.  I’m stoked to finally knock Dahlback off my list. The Swedish-born headliner will provide an impressive set, without question.  The energy will be high, and the crowd will be hype.

Dahlback has developed his own unique style of anxious buildups followed by hard, synth-driven, bass-heavy drops. It's the kind of music that turns a crowd into ruckus. His original tracks "Overdose," "Take This Thing Back," and "Comet" are perfect examples of his individual sound, which will have his audience raging. Along with individual tracks, his remix of Zedd's "Stars Come Out," and his collaboration with Dirty South, "Embrace Me" will add to the chaos.

Danny Avila is already building a name for himself as a talented DJ on the world stage, and he’s only 17.  He’s notched 3 Ibiza residencies, including a 15 set stint along side one of the kings of EDM - Tiesto.  Known for his skills behind the decks, Avila is getting noticed for his production skills, receiving praise for his debut single “Breaking Your Fall”.  Avila's will bring the heat, following up his Pacha NYC show with a performance at EDC Puerto Rico the next day.

I saw Oliver Twizt opening for Laidback Luke’s Super You and Me at Governors Island this past summer, and have been a fan since. He's a talented guy with a diverse taste of music, putting together consistently solid sets. The Dutch producer’s 2010 remix of Afrojack's "Polkadots"is a club banger used routinely in headlining sets at the worlds biggest festivals. But his recent Trap remix of the Dillon Francis x A-Trak collaboration “Money Makin'" really goes hard, even though you won’t hear it on a top 10 playlist. Definitely check it out if you haven’t already.

This Weekend in NYC: Dayglow with R3hab at Governors Island

Well it’s about that time of the year again. Day Glow, now known as Life In Color, is hitting up New York this Sunday at the acclaimed Governors Island in the grand finale to "the Summer of EDM" in the Big Apple. With a better lineup than ever, Life In Color is out to create a reputation for themselves that will surpass anything that former DayGlow-ers have ever seen. This year, the DJ lineup shows great potential with the likes of R3hab and Bassjackers to fuel this paint-splattered party.

Hot on its The E.N.D. (Electronic Never Dies) tour, Life In Color makes a promise to its fans that with each party they throw, the music gets sicker, the venue bigger, and the paint messier. From its original inception in 2009, Life In Color has come a long way in perfecting the art of how to throw a perfect paint party. With the recent change of venue from Long Island to Governors Island, this Sunday has the exact formula for an epic good time. How could it not with R3hab headlining the show? I've been highly anticipating his return since I saw him tear it up at Pacha with his high-energy Dutch House beats. Now with a longer set in a larger-than-life venue, R3hab is going to host this event like no one's ever seen. Come out on Sunday to get weird, get filthy, and most importantly, to see Life In Color.
