5 Mixes to Get You Pumped for Electric Zoo 5

Festival curation is a gift often overlooked, and today Made Event came through in more ways than imaginable for the third phase of the Electric Zoo lineup. Phase II had all the bases covered with headliners representing the best of bass, Tech, and Electro - but that was just the beginning. While I will admit that there isn't a genre-specific flow to a lot of these stages, it really doesn't matter with the talent that's been confirmed. You'd think it'd be hard to get me excited over something so far away with over five festivals before the big hurrah to end the summer, but this schedule is seriously slick. To get you all as stoked as we are we've compiled a few mixes representing the best new zookeepers added to this year's roster.

John O'Callaghan

If anyone's going to transition the vibes from bass to 140 JOC's the man to do it. His style is all about the pressure between vocal rifts and the thrust of relentless basslines that hammer the sounds through the crowd. As Ireland's top DJ, John forged an alliance with John Askew's Discover early on in his career which paved the way for him to rank 24 on DJ Mag's Top 100 by 2009. Later that year he established one of Armada's most successful sub-labels Subculture, which has since provided a haven for him to harvest talent specific to his driving sound. Kick off the festival bright and early Friday with JOC at the Hilltop Arena!

Orjan Nilsen

One of Armin van Buuren's closest allies has also been giving him a run for his money. The artist has demonstrated since 2011 his knack for commanding a main stage crowd with the sounds of Trance & Progressive as one of the scene's biggest breakthrough artists, but his history goes much deeper. As a native of the polar region of northern Norway, Orjan used the isolation to his advantage picking up the keyboard at age seven and later moving on to synthesizers as a teenager. His productions fluctuate widely between old-school rave Trance and Electro "Trance 2.0," but he's never afraid to throw a curveball with chunkier basslines and a shade of Tech. I'll be excited to see him for the first time Friday at Main Stage East!

Nicole Moudaber

The Tech vixen caught my attention on a sweaty day the first weekend of Ultra when I was wandering stages and found my home under the sprawling MegaStructure. Since then I've been hooked to her inescapable groove that straddles the dark and groovy sides of Tech House in a way that's quite indescribable. After her widely celebrated album Believe, Nicole's been ripping up stages from Cielo in New York to the huge clubs of Ibiza. Over Memorial Day weekend Nicole pulverized the cavernous Underground stage at Detroit Electronic Music Festival in one of the headiest sets I've heard this year. And her hair is awesome. Catch Nicole Sunday with Drumcode co-conspirator Adam Beyer at the Sunday School Grove.

I usually get sad listening to these on the live stream, but when I download them I'll have them on repeat for weeks. There were just too many sets to write about this time around, but I can personally recommend Omnia, Arctic Moon, Aly & Fila, Solarstone, and Kearney's sets which were all out of this world. There's a lot of music new, old, and unidentified to be discovered in these archives so just click and download them all!

Free Live Set Downloads: ASOT 600 Sao Paulo

Brazil is one of the sexiest and most colorful places I've ever been to, so watching the live stream of the show last night made me extremely jealous. If there's a place where the people are born and raised on beach, booze, sun, and smiles, it's this South American country, where the positive energy vibrates at right about 140 bpm. Last night the ASOT Expedition made its landing in the country's largest city Sao Paulo, bringing hours of showstopping Trance and Progressive to the salivating crowd. If you weren't a fan of ASOT yet, you are about to be after checking out these stacked playlists. I was particularly impressed with Markus's set last night, but also really enjoyed Armin and De Ronde's performances as well. Watch out for new IDs being posted on the site, but for now check out the free set downloads!

Trance Tuesday ft. Orjan Nilsen, Maor Levi, & Dash Berlin

"Filthy Fandango" - Orjan Nilsen

Orjan Nilsen has always been known for creating unconventional tracks, and this number is no exception. Do not let the timid, light Trance melody in the beginning fool you - this track is a banger. Following a deep Bass interlude, the song builds to an energetic climax, mixing the heavy beat and sweet trance melody together. If producers like W&W are your style, then you will most definitely love this. The hard beat Orjan Nilsen brings to his tracks is just as infectious on your iPod as it is on the dance floor. Released just yesterday on Beatport, rest assured that this track will not bore you

"Solace" - Neil Davidge (Maor Levi Remix)

On TATW 446, an announcement was made that some Anjunabeats label producers were going to remix the new Halo video game soundtrack. Gamers and trance lovers alike: brace yourselves. Maor Levi remixes this track to be something very different than the original. Starting with an almost Drum & Bass like rhythm, the track then transitions into an ethereal melody, mixing in small twangs that sound like some kind of technology-feedback. Halo has always been known for having a killer soundtrack, and pairing it with a remixed version just seems too ingenious! This is far different from anything we have seen from Maor Levi, but it works. The gorgeous soundscape he creates is very reminiscent of Andrew Bayer, yet it still differs from the rest with its dark drum and bass breakdown. Enjoy!

Golden Oldie

"Till the Sky Falls Down" - Dash Berlin

Dash Berlin is notorious for ballad-style trance. One of his classics that he still plays today is "Til the Sky Falls Down". Although this song is usually remixed in his live performances, we wanted to pay some homage to the original here at EDM Lounge. In remixed versions, the lyrics are cut down to just the chorus, so a lot of the song’s deeper meaning is lost. Seeing this song performed live is amazing, especially if you're singing along to the overwhelming chorus along with thousands of trance fans. Get those lyrics down pat for the next time you catch Dash B!
