The Underground Party of the Summer: Bang On! NYC in 3D

When I first moved to New York from Arizona I fed my guilty all night pleasures with the amusements of the underground. While Manhattan is certainly lacking in spaces to host such parties (there are some exceptions), Brooklyn and Queens have plenty of places to keep the party a secret and a riot at the same time. The Lab in Bed-Stuy (Electric Warehouse) and Amazura in Jamaica have long been the outer boroughs' well-established raver outlets, but there are plenty of other venues that are being explored. The same night I was at a rave out in the desert of Arizona a lot of friends were at the Nyan Cats show at Amazura which was the biggest turnout in recent NYC raver history.

Bang On! is one of those events I said I was going to as soon as I got the invite. I'm all about secret locations and this is set to be one of the biggest and most well-promoted legal underground parties of the year, with over 40,000 sq ft of indoor and outdoor space and two stages (really, if a facebook event has over 2,000 confirmed you know it's going to be a rager). When you go to underground shows around the country it is very rare to see anyone on the lineup that is remotely recognizable beyond a few miles' radius of the city they're playing in, but this is going to be a treat to remember.

Click to expandThe promoters of the "festival" couldn't have put together a smarter selection of the some of the scene's most obscure yet closely-watched artists. I was surprised to see OWSLA-signed KOAN Sound on the roster but also super stoked partake in their jazz-step experience in such a unique spot. Minnesota is a name we've all been watching as a less-mainstream offshoot of the silky smooth bass sound Seven Lions pioneered. The Chainsmokers are some of the nicest guys we've met and also locals that we've featured on the site, and I'm looking forward to see how they spin. I had no idea who The Lowriderz were but I'm glad I was turned onto them, basically they're a white version of Krewella that plays acid crunk instead of Top 40 Electro Bass. Of course the biggest and most anticipated act of the night is the one and only Felix Da Housecat which we will absolutely not be missing. If you have a ravenous appetite for relentless jazz-Tech grooves this is not a show to skip.

Click to expandThe best part of course is the vibe that you'll get over any club atmosphere in Manhattan. On top of a huge outdoor Silent Disco, an air-conditioned space, vendors, art installations, and aerial acrobatics, we've been promised 3-D glasses on arrival to keep us spellbound until the sun comes up. We hope to see you there and if you make it out be sure to smile for the camera as we'll be shooting the whole event!

Free Download: "Stardust Redux" - Minnesota

My boy Minnesota has just dropped his Equinox EP featuring two songs that are absolutely perfect for the upcoming festival summer drives across the country. "Stardust Redux" is as it would seem, full of space adventure mixed with acoustics sending you high without leaving Earth. The build ups are beautiful and galactic sounds continue all throughout the song, making it seem like you're about to find yourself landing on the most beautiful exotic planet in existence. Sit back and enjoy your trip through space!

"Need Your Heart" - Adventure Club (Minnesota Remix)

2 in 2 baby, you go Colorado!! From yesterday’s legalization of marijuana to being the hometown of EDM baby Minnesota, Colorado wins state of the month here at EDM Lounge. Minnesota just dropped his remix of Adventure Club’s “Need Your Heart” and my god, it is a beautiful song. Full of ethereal synth beats and a glittering melody that evokes a sense of inner peace within the listener, this track also manages to keep it sexy with Kai’s vocals. So press play, and raise your glass (or blunt!) to Minnesota and Colorado (and Washington, too!).
