Deadmau5 to Release > Album Title Goes Here < September 25

Big news from Canada. After blessing us with a masterpiece of an album back in 2010 with 4x4=12, and surprising us with a hell of a set at Veld last week (despite the rain), Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 has announced that he will be releasing a new album on Ultra Music entirely of his own productions. Here at EDM Lounge we've been getting you guys previews of these tracks for the past few months, but there are even more surprises than we had thought. >Album Title Goes Here< will feature collaborations with Cypress Hill ("Failbait"), Imogen Heap, Wolfgang Gartner (who always co-produces gold), and Chris James -- and we can't wait to hear them.

    Veld Music Festival Official Preview

EDM Lounge is thrilled to be heading to the Veld Music Festival this weekend in Toronto, ON! We're going international (eh?)

Here's our official preview to get you ready for the event! And if you haven't entered our giveaway for TWO (yes, TWO!) free tickets to the festival, do it now because the contest only has a few hours left!

    Saturday 8/4/2012

Picking and choosing between DJs will prove difficult on Saturday. If I covered them all, this would be an essay, so here are some I'd like to highlight.

DVBBS [Electro House] (Bacardi Tent 1-2pm) Toronto natives DVBBS will kick the party off in the Bacardi Tent Saturday afternoon. The electro house duo is fresh off the IDentity Fest tour, and have new tracks in the works. Listen for the guys to drop new material as well as their hot originals including "DRVGS" and "Dance Bitch" (below).

Michael Woods [Big Room / Progressive House] (Main Stage 3:30-4:30) Michael Woods absolutely smashed it at EDC Vegas. Don't miss this energetic set when he takes the Canadian big city by storm!

Krewella [Dubstep / Electro] (Bacardi Tent 4-5pm) 2012 has been a busy year for the trio! Releasing the Play Hard EP amongst a plethora of other solid records, Krewella is sure to have the bass thumpin'!

Knife Party [Dubstep] (Main Stage 6:30-7:30pm) You're living under a rock if you don't know Knife Party. Releasing one banging track after the next, this is a heart-racing, mind-blowing set that you have to experience for yourself to really believe. Get ready to rage!

Tommy Trash [House] (Bacardi Tent 8-9pm) Known for destroying every remix he touches and notorious for his riotous live sets,  I can promise you an AMAZING time if you see Tommy Trash. Prepare to headbang :)

Deadmau5 [A Genre of His Own] (Main Stage 9:15-11pm) I've been to many Deadmau5 shows, but this will be the first time I'll see him play a festival. I'm anxious to see him take the stage in Toronto where he currently resides, because knowing Joel he will undoubtedly have some tricks up his sleeve. Deadmau5 will be closing Saturday night with no other artists competing with his time slot, so there is no excuse for missing it!

    Sunday 8/5/2012

Swanky Tunes [House] (Main Stage 3-4pm) Currently killing the EDM game is the Russian trio Swanky Tunes! I've been continuously impressed by their recent releases, and I have not seen these guys live yet so I'm certainly not going to miss them this Sunday!

Pierce Fulton [House] (Bacardi Tent 3:30-4:30pm) I'm excited to see this young prodigy throw down! There's nothing I love more than a DJ who genuinely loves what they do, and you can definitely expect passion and high energy from Fulton on Sunday.

Gareth Emery [Trance / Progressive House] (Bacardi Tent 7:30-9pm) Combining trance, house and progressive into one set, Gareth Emery was one of my favorite acts at EDC NY. He possesses the coveted ability to command a crowd in a way that not many DJs can. I highly recommend you stop by this set, you won't be disappointed.

Bassnectar [Dubstep] (Main Stage 7:45-8:45pm) I've seen Bassnectar a couple of times now, and he is always incredible live. Lorin drops bass - IN YOUR IN YOUR FACE!

Avicii [Progressive House / Trance] (Main Stage 9-11pm) Closing out the festival is Avicii. The Swedish producer has become a household name, and for a good reason! However tired of his records you may be, I have yet to see anything less than an epic and surprisingly bass-heavy set from Avicii, and you do not want to miss it.

Chill the Fuck Out: Chillstep Chapter 3

Here at the Lounge we've had quite the busy past few weeks, and are in the need of some serious chill time. To that, I present the third installment of my Chilltastic Chillstep Playlist featuring seven awesome tracks that will hopefully make everyone calm the fuck down, and just nod their heads to the bass - because really, that's what living is all about.

"Beyond Jaded (Deadmau5 Cover)" - At Dawn We Rage

In case this wasn't obvious already, I'm a big deadmau5 fan. So imagine my surprise when I came across this amazing At Dawn We Rage Chillstep remix of one of my favorite tracks of his: "Jaded". The track is pretty relaxing to begin with, but this remix is perfect for night driving. And I love it. It's just so good. Have a listen; you won't be disappointed.

    "Love At Heart" - Blackmill

Blackmill fucking rules Chillstep. There's no way to dispute that. "Love at Heart" is one of my favorite tracks from Blackmill's album Miracle, and just like the rest of his stuff, it's forceful and it thumps while still being melodic and beautiful. I love seeing Dubstep tracks like this, and lucky for me that's all Blackmill releases. The build-up for this track is amazing, and the drop is beautiful. This one definitely has a spot alongside the above track on the Nighttime Cruising playlist, folks. No doubt about it.

    "The Drift" - Blackmill

Classical and Dubstep: my two favorite things! "The Drift" even has violin! (I love the way violin sounds alongside the bass). The melody on this track is breathtaking, the beat is nice and forceful, and I can't stop listening to it. This is one of my favorite tracks right now, period. Have a listen.

    "In the Twilight" - Phaeleh

"In the Twilight" is an extremely chill track, and is tied for first with "Afterglow" as my favorite Phaeleh song. I love the vocals, the melody, and the percussion -- they all work together stunningly. This track is one of the chillest of the seven, even with the awesome drop where the beat comes in and really begins to drive the song.

"There Might be Coffee" - Deadmau5

Deadmau5 has finally delivered the coffee… and just in time for the Veld Music Festival in Toronto where he is a headlining act alongside Avicii, Bassnectar, and more (full preview coming tomorrow!). Melodic and uplifting as mau5 tracks are known to be, "There Might Be Coffee" features an energetic mixture of thumping bass, percussion, and warm synths. Equipped with that signature "Deadmau5 sound," the track takes me to a different state of mind; simply stated, it's beautiful. Unofficially released on Deadmau5's soundcloud, he produced the track in front of millions of fans on his ustream, but it's sure to be a highlight of his new album in the works. Grab your favorite cup of Tim Horton's and let the music take you away! And if you're a Mau5head like me, check out this great interview by Canada's CBC which really gives you a feel for Joel Zimmerman.
