Electric Zoo Friday Preview: Dog Blood (Skrillex & Boys Noize) @ Riverside

For those of you who suffered anxiety attacks when you didn't see Skrillex on the artist list, have no fear, he will be at Electric Zoo 2013 alongside co-conspirator Boys Noize, and better than ever. Boyz Noise and Skrilly's work on side project Dog Blood has propelled the duo to the top of OWLSA's roster, as well as to the top of my must-sees in the lineup this year. Deviating from the commercial success of their two individual names, Dog Blood has become a sanctuary for both to get back to their roots and plant new ones, exploring a different genre that calls more upon style than strict adherence to form. Rooted in both Electro and Techno, Dog Blood's style is not afraid to dig deeper into the grungier sounds of dubstep that allowed them to be propelled to such heights in the first place. Whatever you want to call it, the pair's sound is distinct from other artists of equal stature.

Since their formation in 2012, Dog Blood has come a long way, even from their not-so-humble beginnings as a duo. Their very first single, "Next Order," very quickly made it to the top of Beatport's charts. After a very busy solo period from both Skrillex and Boyz Noise towards the end of 2012, Dog Blood emerged from its hiatus to throw down the house at the first weekend of Ultra 2013. From there they casually released a few singles including casually releasing a few singles including the smash success "Wild For The Night" remix for A$AP Rocky. Since then, they've played Coachella, EDC Vegas, and Glastonbury Festival among others, and now the pinnacle of New York's electronic culture: Electric Zoo festival. These two are no strangers to Randall's Island, but we hope you're all primed for what happens when they come together this Friday. See you 8:45 at Riverside!

"Starwin" (Original Mix) - Boys Noize

Yesterday Boys Noize released the second track off his upcoming EP Go Hard set to release June 24th. This one is completely different from the title track off the album, but is more of what we have come to expect from Alexander Ridha. Even though the German producer has been at it for years releasing hefty Electro singles, which makes this latest disco-inspired tune quite a departure, the rest of the tracks previewed seemed completely unidentifiable with his sound. "Starwin" isn't quite as electronic or heavy as some of his older stuff, yet it definitely has that funky flow only Boys Noize can portray.

"ProtoVision" (Boys Noize Amp-Up) - Kavinsky

If I were Kavinsky, I'd be peeing my pants with joy that my new single, "Protovision" just got remixed by Boyz Noise. The German legend has an impeccable reputation for his stunning live performances and also for never failing to make a satisfying hit, with this remix hardly an exception. An exhilarating Electro banger edged with funky glitches, this track will thrill you with its eery adrenaline-releasing drops and bangs. I'm excited to see what he's going to crank out next, especially due to his recent partnership with Skrillex on the Dog Blood project, set for another two-track release this spring that I'll be anxiously awaiting. If you're hitting up Ultra Music Festival this Spring, be sure to be one of the first to catch the two's highly anticipated performance.

"XTC" - Boys Noize

Boys Noize is getting ready to drop his newest album Out of The Black on August 6th.  Lucky for us Hard Electro Producer & DJ Alex Ridha provided his fans with this single “XTC” a little ahead of the release. Its energetic electronic beats and crisp synth work combine together to create an explosive banger. And let's not forget about the really catchy XTC chant! Finally we have the techno-like breakdown that will leave you rockin' and rollin' your head to the beat. If you’ve heard any of Boys Noize's other tracks, you will be just as "ecstatic" with this one. I know I am eagerly counting down the days until this entire album is finally released!

"What You Want" - Boys Noize

Boys Noize has finally released the opening track of his forthcoming album. The track, entitled "What You Want," combines robotic, Daft Punk style vocals with an old-school hip-hop bass, without diverging from his own Hard-electro style (shown in "&Down" and "Jeffer"). The German producer's new album, as he announced today, is to be called Out of the Night, and here at the Lounge we can't wait to get the full release in our hands! If you’re a fan of earlier Boys Noize, listen up. And don't forget to catch him bringing down the Sunday School Grove Stage on my birthday (September 2) at Electric Zoo!
