"Humming the Lights" - Armin van Buuren pres. Gaia

My favorite Armin productions always fall under his alias Gaia. This massive ID has been ringing in my ears from sets for the past few months, but now we finally have the full title revealed. This no pants Trance party just got taken to the next level on ASOT 599, the final time we turned the world into a dancefloor before we set off to embark on The Expedition. With shaking basslines an agressive build and an electrifying break that will make your faith in the genre restored to the fullest, "Humming the Lights" is a track that solidifies Armin's status as a legend of dance music. See you Trance-stronauts when we at blast-off time!

Track of the Day: "Borealis" - DJ Eco (Solis & Sean Truby Remix)

Eco is who I turn to when I'm sick of Progressive, and he always gets the job done right. The Jersey producer has been around for quite a while, in fact one of my first raves here in the city featured him alongside Breakfast, and I instantly was hooked to his milky pure sound. So when I think of a classic Trance anthem, "Borealis" immediately comes to mind. The looping melody line of it is nothing further than intoxicating. I'm so glad Armin decided to through this into his ASOT mix with a truly noteworthy remix from Solis & Sean Truby. Taking the charm and timelessness of the original the two throw in some pounding breaks that bring up the energy level. This is one relic of Trance music I would normally say is off limits, but they did it right and should be applauded. That's not to say this isn't still an extremely emotional song, so prepare yourselves accordingly because the heavy feelings this one invokes are truly inexpressible. If you live in the New York area be sure to join us for a night of pure Trance at the Sullivan Room in the Village with Eco! Buy your tickets here ($10).

Free Download: My Favorite Sets from Ultra Music Festival 2012

The anticipation is building. It's getting cold on the East Coast, and we're all thinking about spring, sun, and the amazing festival season that awaits us on the other end of this hell. Today I'm feeling nostalgic about last year's venture down south to Miami for Ultra, which was one of the best experiences of my life. So now I present you with some of my favorite live sets from last year's festival. Unfortunately I couldn't include quite all of them (KASKADE!) because of sound quality and availability, but this covers quite a few and will keep me satisfied until March rolls around.

Pretty Lights

I've seen Derek play quite a few times but this was by far the best performance I've seen from him. The live stage at last year's Ultra was made for PL. I'm hoping they pick the same if he shows up for on the 15th anniversary lineup.

Carl Cox

Blew my mind. This guy is incredible and since he doesn't tour around the US too much, you must see him at Ultra this year. Last year he played in the afternoon at his own stage, and it was perfect. Tech House at its very best. Be sure not to miss him this year.

Bingo Players

Fuck these two are good. I'm not much for the House that gets a lot of radio play, but these two pull it off more than any two I've seen. Last year's set was mindblowing, here's to hoping they make it out again this year.

The ASOT 550 setup was prime last year, and I'm hoping that it's the same this year for weekend 2. ATB did an astonishing performance for the radio show last year, you'll just have to hear to believe what I mean.

Fedde le Grand

This set alone probably sent Fedde from budding DJ to superstar. One of the sunniest, most happiest afternoons I can remember, with this as the soundtrack. Get sauced and blast this shit.

Dash Berlin

ASOT 550 was something for the books, and I loved getting down in the afternoon to the sound of Dash Berlin. The Expedition makes its grand return to Bayfront Park this March. See you there.

"Not This Time" - Beat Service ft. Neev Kennedy

There must be something in the Estonian water, because the small slice of Northern Europe has given rise to Electro House virtuoso Mord Fustang and the Trance mastermind that is Beat Service in seemingly no time at all. Beat Service has been absolutely blowing up as of late, having nearly every new remix and single featured on both Group Therapy Radio and A State of Trance. His newest release proves that the hype is indeed real, as this is one of the more memorable trance releases I have heard recently. "Not This Time" is a gorgeous, well-polished piece that features a little bit of everything: soaring vocals, sharp synths, nice melodies, and cool arpeggios. The energetic, pulsing synths in this song are awesome and Neev Kennedy absolutely kills the vocals on this one, as her voice is able to convey emotion of the lyrics while alternating the dynamics of her own sound. This track is a strong release that fits whatever mood or environment you are in, whether it's a nice drive or getting down at the club.
