Armin Announces A State of Electro Episode 001

After a huge showing at Madison Square Garden to celebrate the 600th episode of A State of Trance, the world's number 1 DJ has announced that the popular radio show is no more. "Trance is dead. All the kiddies just want to hear 'Spectrum' and 'Language' now, so I thought we had to rework things a little," said the legendary Amsterdancer when we spoke to him after the show.

The days of 140 BPM seem to be over but that doesn't mean Armin's going anywhere anytime soon - A State of Electro (pronounced "A-SO") will now be broadcast live every Thursday on Digitally Imported to a worldwide audience. "ASOT had so many limitations, and most of the TranceFamily just ended up fighting online. But ASOE is the start of a new beginning for me. Now I can finally connect with the majority of my fans who in most jurisdictions would be breaking curfew laws to come out and see me. Most of my fans these days are really young."

Young they are indeed. This jolly chap that we were dancing next to broke it down low when Armin dropped Andrew Rayel's Trance-i-fied remix of "Clarity." In fact, he was so enamoured by the spectacle at The Garden that he took it upon himself to pull out a glass bowl and light up an unknown substance that smelled distinctly of skunk. When we asked him his age he responded, "I'm fourteen." Armada Music & Armin van Buuren North American press representative Emily Tan had no comment regarding the incident.

But it's not just Armin that's making the push towards a new sound for an era of underaged dance music enthusiasts. At his side America's top DJ Markus Schulz and Dutch veteran Ferry Corsten assembled this past weekend to form the DJ duo known as "New World Punx." We were happy to see the two spin some of their classics, but also assured that this would be the last time we'd be hearing these tracks from them. "Why play 'Loops and Tings' when we could just drop 'Spaceman?' The minors like Hardwell better than us anyways," said Markus after his miserably crowded afterparty set at Pacha in Midtown.

Either way, my heart goes out to all the people in Den Bosch because the final show has been cancelled and your tickets will not be refunded. The only saving grace is that Aly & Fila will be playing B2B with Dillon Francis the same night in the Red Light District - sure to be quite the interesting experience.

Free Set Downloads: ASOT 600 NYC

Last night was truly a remarkable night for dance music in New York City, and the entire United States. Although I didn't really hear much of the so called Trance that we're celebrating 600 episodes of, the entire experience from the moment we entered Madison Square Garden was out of this world. The vibe from the general admission pit area was unbelievable, especially since it wasn't too overcrowded so everyone could move straight to the front if they wanted. Either way W&W set it off early with their typical Electro set. Unfortunately their sound got cut for the longest time I've ever experienced, so I felt quite bad for them for what otherwise would have been one for the books. Markus & Ferry took the stage together as "New World Punx" and played what was for me the best set of the night. You could see the gleam in Armin's eyes as he took to the decks of "The World's Most Famous Arena," which was now jam-packed. I was a little confused as to why Armin thought it was a good idea to play "Clarity" and "Spectrum" back to back, but other than that error of judgement the entire set was truly historical. Listen and download below!

"This Is What It Feels Like" (W&W Remix) - Armin van Buuren

Yet again W&W, the dutch DJ duo Willem van Hangegem and Ward van der Harst, show us why they are the next big thing in EDM with their remix of Armin Van Buuren's "This Is What It Feels Like" feat. Trevor Guthrie. W&W takes this track to another level by adding an epic bass line to the already beautifully produced Trance track that will be released on Armin's upcoming album Intense April 5th. Crossing over into Progressive House, Trance, and Electro, W&W is always incorporating new sounds and styles in their music and this remix is a perfect example of that. I can't get enough of the the catchy melodies and massive lead sounds that transition flawlessly from W&W's hard, tough beats to Armin's classic touch that we all love. The fusion in this track makes it absolutely irresistible when it comes to dancing, giving it a positive energy that can't be denied!

Ultra really wowed me this year other and other than the crowd situation this past Friday I had an amazing time with amazing people! I was sad not to be able to attend the show yesterday but here's what I and the other unlucky people missed. Ferry Corsten really impressed today the entire stream and I've been hearing rave reviews of Paul van Dyk's closing set. Enjoy and see you all next year for the (supposedly one) weekend of March 28, 29, and 30th!

Free Set Downloads: ASOT 600 Beirut

For those of you who didn’t tune in, yesterday was A State of Trance 600 Beirut, part of the Expedition tour celebrating 600 episodes of Armin Van Buuren’s weekly radio show. It was an absolutely extraordinary event, with stellar performances from Antillas, Andrew Rayel, Dash Berlin, Armin van Buuren, John O’Callaghan, and MaRlo. The sets from Dash Berlin and Andrew Rayel in particular were outstanding, with the latter getting huge praise on the internet by the TranceFamily. Armin's set was, as usual, mind-blowing. Dropping all of his best tracks, in addition to mixing in new promos, Armin kept the Electro energy cranked all the way up from his warm-up to his entire two hour set. His set is available for free download, go check it out and relive the magical event all-night event.
