EDM Lounge Interviews Tritonal

With a huge fanbase, innovative tracks, and stellar vocal collaborations, Austin, TX based Dave Reed and Chad Cisneros have become one of the most popular names in Progressive Trance. I talked with Tritonal after their impressive set opening for Dash Berlin at Governor's Beach Club NYC.

How did you become the duo of Tritonal?

We actually met online on a sound design forum and become friends listening, sharing, cool music along with our production ideas. Then Dave moved to Austin to see what we could do and it kicked off like that.

What was it like living in different locations while transporting music via the internet?

To be honest, we didn't really produce a lot of tracks before he moved. We listened a lot to get a feel for what types of sounds each other really liked, which is what created our friendship. Individually, we are trying to find our own sounds and techniques and we started learning things together, realizing how easy it is to make music with one another. The collaboration and potential was just too great to pass!

Did you guys always produce electronic music or did you start out in another genre?

Yes, we always produced electronic music - all different styles across the board.

How does it feel to be Top 100 DJs, and have support from some of the biggest names in dance music including Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond and Ferry Corsten?

It's definitely a blessing! When Chad and I started, just to think where we’re now, we would have shit bricks! We worked so hard, just learning every single day, while we’ve made mistakes and we’ve made achievements. The support from Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, all those guys, have been awesome! It’s propelled us!

Uplifting Trance Track "Coming Home" - Aly & Fila vs. Jwaydan

It's been a while since I have heard a track that made me think instantly of 2010 Trance. But Aly & Fila, a duo that have yet to disappoint my ears, resurrect that classic trance sound with this killer new track, featured on Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance 2012 Mix. There needs to be more trance like this out there right now! "Coming Home" has an old vibe with a familiar build and similar lyrics to that classic trance of a few years back. Aly & Fila truly deliver with this track, and I hope to hear this in sets at festivals coming up this summer after its release in June.  Even though I do adore some progressive trance, there is an extreme shortage of uplifting vocal tracks such as this! Give it a listen and respect the roots of the wonderful genre that is trance!

A Trance Head's Guide to EDC Vegas 2012

With EDC Week in sight, I wanted to take a chance to mention some of the Trance artists that are going to be there, who you should check out, and what tracks you might be hearing this weekend under the Electric Sky! Get ready for A State of Trance and Group Therapy to invade your ears!

Must-See Performances

Below is a list of people I am counting on having killer sets this weekend from past experience and research. You may notice that I left out some obvious ones, these are merely the artists that you may not expect to have a stellar performance, but totally will

Andrew Bayer

Since breaking ground into the DJ world at Miami's Ultra Music Festival, Andrew Bayer has shown that his worth is in more than just producing. After catching his set twice at Group Therapy LA, I can tell you this set is going to be one you are not going to want to miss. A producing genius, Andrew Bayer has produced tracks that are unconventional, and he has teamed up with some big names in trance music. If you are a fan of trance you are going to want to catch his set. Trust me.

"Monolith" - Andrew Bayer

Mat Zo

Opening for the one and only Above & Beyond, you can be sure that Mat Zo is going to tear the roof off this weekend. With his genius productions and mashups, you can guarantee that Mat Zo's set will differ from all the rest. From having tracks of trance, to progressive, to even Electro House - Mat Zo's set will keep you dancing til' the sun rises over the Speedway. Traditionalists, be warned, Mat Zo is known for breaking all the rules. But if you're like me, you love a musical rebel.

"The Reward is Happiness" - Deadmau5 & Arty (Mat Zo Mashup)

Dash Berlin

Although Dash Berlin is not new to the trance scene, he has recently been making lots of waves with his sets and releases. Recently, I heard his set from ASOT 550 and I was absolutely glued to my headphones. A talented DJ, and an even more passionate musician, I can tell you that Dash Berlin is going to pull something out of his hat for EDC this year, and I am so excited to see it. With a new album and even more clever productions, you would have to be pretty insane not to catch a little of this set.

"The Funeral" - Dash Berlin ft. Band of Horses

W&W

An exciting duo to watch live, and an even more exciting duo to see produce, W&W is going to a be a set you will not want to walk away from. Keeping the high energy tracks and signature W&W sound, these two have played in clubs all around the world, from Miami to Ibiza. After seeing them at Nocturnal in San Bernadino this year, they sold me on their sound and performance and you can be sure that I will be there to see what they have in store for us EDC party goers.

"Nowhere to Go" - W&W feat. Bree

Ferry Corsten

After recently releasing his new album in February, WKND, Ferry Corsten has shown that it does not matter how long you are making trance, but how passionate you are. I have seen Ferry Corsten perform before and I can tell you it was a memorable experience. If you like trance and you do not know who Ferry Corsten is, then you have some research to do. This production and musical visionary is going to be a real treat to see

"A Day Without Rain" - Ferry Corsten feat. Ellie Lawson

Other Artists I'm Excited to See

Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Cosmic Gate, ATB, Arty, Jaytech, Rank 1, BT, Eco, Gareth Emery, Jochen Miller, Rank 1, Markus Schulz, Kyau & Albert, Norin & Rad, Super 8 & Tab, Sander van Doorn, Tritonal

Tracks You'll Be Hearing A Lot Of This Weekend

"Allein" - Pryda

This track has been making big waves recently, showing up on TATW multiple times and in other sets and podcasts. People just can't get enough of this track. With a progressive and uplifting beat, the chorus is hard not to bob your head to. With an almost disco feel, I can put money on hearing this track at least 2 or 3 times this weekend, if not more.

"Open Space" - Arty

Whenever Arty releases a track it seems to become an instant hit, and there's good reason for that. "Open Space" is no exception to that rule. Arty knows how to make interesting sounds into a great song, while maintaining the musical story trance relies so heavily on. With firm and uplifting chord progression, the climax releases into an energetic burst of bass and melody which will suit any massive dance floor perfectly. I will be sorely surprised if I do not hear this track a few times this weekend. Not on just trance stages, but House and Progressive too.

"On My Way to Heaven" (Club Mix) - Above & Beyond

The renowned Above & Beyond have just recently released the Club Mix for their hit single "On My Way to Heaven," and it has been popping up in podcasts and sets for the past 2 weeks. Just in time for EDC, I can guarantee not only will Above & Beyond play this, but other artists will too. But who can say no to Richard Bedford's familiar vocals and lyrics that tug on any trance head's heart strings?

Track of the Day: "Showgrounds" - MaRLo

This awesome new record out now on Armada Music has a big sound. The song starts with an edgy progression and turns into a party anthem, while still incorporating the progressive trance sound Armada and A State of Trance is known for. This is the first I've heard of him, and I am already impressed with MaRLo's sound.

Out now on Beatport

Hot New Preview of "Nothing Inside" - Sander van Doorn ft. Mayaeni

I first heard this amazing progressive anthem at Sander's set at ASOT 550 at Ultra Music Festival in Miami this March. The response to this track has been amazing so far, which I could tell alone just judging the Miami crowd. Mayaeni's amazing melodies work very well with the Dutch progressive producer's buildups. Here's a preview, and make sure to get a copy of the record when it drops May 7th on Doorn Records! This is the upcoming summer anthem!!!
