Throwback Thursday: "Sushi" (Original Mix) - 7 Skies

7 Skies through the years has brought us the best Trance music has to offer, releasing timeless dancefloor classics through Anjunabeats, Armada Music, Euphonic, and more. His talent showcases a huge diversity of production abilities that really pays off in this classic. "Sushi" is an atomic track that displays the true magic of what Trance music is all about. The deep bassline paired with a perfectly syncopated melody rhythm makes this one a showstopper. Trance music heals like no other, it centers you on yourself and your surroundings, and 7 Skies has mastered that craft. Release the euphoria.

"Sanity" (Dub Mix) - Ronski Speed [Anjunabeats Vol. 10]

What I find most interesting about the House vs. Trance vs. "Trouse" debate is that it really misses the point. A lot of vocal tracks that many people consider emblems of Trance music are nothing more than Pop with a lot of buildup and a Progressive break. To me Trance isn't a formula, it's the effect the music has on you when it's played. Dubstep for example will make you cringe and mosh like you were at a death metal show, Progressive will have you smiling, singing along, and going crazy. Trance on the other hand is a complex animal, which is why it's so misunderstood. For me at least, it centers you within your mind, making time go in slow motion. The music will shake the walls around you and leave you floating within a milky haze of long chords and deep basslines. Listening to Trance is a process of mass-meditation on the dance floor, and a truly fulfilling one. I honestly could count the number of "brands" within dance music that I'm truly loyal to on one hand, and Anjunabeats without a doubt takes a spot. With the help of some of the most brilliant DJs of human history, it has blossomed into a mainstay for music like I just described, a constantly curated roster of producers and spinners like Ronski Speed who are committed to generating a particular feeling in their music rather than sticking to a compositional formula. I hope 2013 will be the year Trance music picks up the slack and becomes what it was created to be - an escape from the menacing world into the universal abyss of infinite love and infinite mystery. I for one am ready for the journey, are you?

Track of the Day: "Immersion" (Original Mix) - Lange vs. Genix

I feel truly blessed to have seen Lange play alongside Andy Moor in such a brilliant venue for Trance music as the Oracle Arena in Oakland. Lange's latest creation with Genix is a shaking, melodic masterpiece with an uplifting chord structure and a lot of heart. Along with Nitrous Oxide's "K.O.," this one is set to be featured on the hugely anticipated Anjunabeats Volume 10 compilation, to be released March 4th (preorder here). "Immersion" has an overpowering sound to it that would benefit a lot in live mixes, and if I'm correct, I do believe Ilan Bluestone has a remix on the way. So stay tuned. Out February 11th.

Counting Down to Heaven on the East Coast with Above & Beyond

On February 16th, Valentine's Day weekend, the NYC Trance family will gather together for a night filled with a thing called love, as we join Above & Beyond for an unforgettable night at Roseland Ballroom. This Made Event will honor in celebration the massive release of Anjunabeats Volume 10, which we're sure will even top the last volume which was in itself one of the defining EDM compilations of our time. This year, I have traveled the world over for a little Group Therapy, from Philadelphia to Miami, Vegas to NYC, and of course nothing will ever compare to that one life changing night in Ibiza for Cream night at Amnesia. Paavo, Tony and Jono are my lifeblood, fueling my every inspiration with their transcedental love for music, and I'm sure they have the same effect on thousands of fans around the globe. I am beyond thrilled to share in another unforgettable experience with them in our home base, New York City. Sharing the stage with A&B includes the very talented Andrew Bayer, Norin & Rad and Beckwith, all proud members of the Anjunafamily. The brand new compilation album will give us unheard tracks from some of the most supreme names in Trance music, including Arty, Andrew Bayer, Jaytech, Norin & Rad, Kyau & Albert, and of course, the three British superstars themselves. Get ready for a sold out night with the masters of music, Above & Beyond, who will also be playing the night prior at SoundGarden Hall in Philadelphia. As we lose all sense of time and space, our hearts will rip wide open: we're on our way to heaven on the East Coast. And be on the lookout for the review of Vol. 10, it's going to be a smash record you won't want to miss!
