Review: > Album Title Goes Here < - Deadmau5

The 6th studio album from Deadmau5 is finally here! This has been a long time in the making (his last album being 4x4=12), and I'm sure many fans are overjoyed with this release. This album features many tracks that were first featured on Joel's SoundCloud account and/or worked on while he streamed, like "The Veldt."

Overall, I'm impressed with this album. There are some very solid tracks and some interesting experimental tracks that showcase Joel's ever-changing style that is always difficult to pinpoint. >Album Title Goes Here< is predominantly Electro House, with less Progressive tracks than previous albums ("The Veldt" being the most obvious example of Prog House). There are some fantastic tracks on here, and some that are slightly less fantastic. But all in all, deadmau5 has proven himself among EDM's top players with today's release. My biggest complaint: WHERE IS "AURAL PSYNAPSE"?

Notable Tracks

2. "Channel 42" ft. Wolfgang Gartner

This is the first time I've heard this track, and I really really like it. It gets going very quickly, is nice and forceful, and has that fantastic Electro House sound with a nice touch of Wolfgang Gartner in the mix. Pretty much everything these guys do together sounds great, and this is no different.

3. "The Veldt"

This is his big song at the moment. It's a great song. Nice and upbeat and prog house and happy. But I'm sure you already know this song, so we're gonna move on.

4. "Fn Pig"

This is one of the best tracks off the new album, and now one of my favorites of Joel's. The gradual melodic build is fantastic, and then the drop about 3:40 in is epic. This track combines his obvious melodic gift with his irrefutable ability to create some filthy House drops, and I love absolutely everything about this song. Don't believe me? Grab some quality headphones and have a listen. You won't be disappointed.

5. "Professional Griefers"

Awesome track. Another one of his big songs at the moment (my favorite lyric: "girls with guns on LSD"). Fantastic song. EPIC video. Moving on.

6. "Maths"

Great Electro House tune. Was released as a single a while back, still fantastic. If you haven't heard it yet, definitely worth a listen.

7. "There Might Be Coffee"

We posted this one a while back when it was released on SoundCloud. Fantastic song with a nice, upbeat melody.

9. "Closer"

Very solid Progressive House track. This is my favorite from the album for one reason: it's beautiful and it thumps. This is a terrific song that has an unforgettable melody and a very strong beat, which I love.

10. "October"

My second favorite song on the album. This Progressive House track is b-e-a-utiful, and I love the return to the "Random Album Title" sound. Fantastic sound, fantastic melody, just awesome in every way. Definitely worth a listen!

14. "Strobe" (Live Version)

This is arguably my favorite deadmau5 song of all time. It's just that good. So imagine my glee when a special version was being released here. This isn't a new track, but it's absolutely amazingly beautiful, and I love it. If you haven't heard this, listen to it. It changed my life.

And some experimental stuff:

8. "Take Care of the Proper Paperwork"

This one is more "violent" and has a very static sound. It's a cool track, but not my absolute favorite.

11. "Sleepless"

Great downtempo track. Reminds me vaguely of trip hop, and I'm loving that vibe. This is a fantastic track, and though it doesn't have the typical deadmau5 vibe, it's still great.

12. "Failbait"

Very cool experimental track done with Cypress Hill. Minimal sounding, and the production is very cool, but it's not my favorite.

13. "Telemiscommunications" ft. Imogen Heap

This track features vocals from Imogen Heap, which are absolutely perfect for the sound of the track, which is slower and very minimal sounding.

Deadmau5 to Release > Album Title Goes Here < September 25

Big news from Canada. After blessing us with a masterpiece of an album back in 2010 with 4x4=12, and surprising us with a hell of a set at Veld last week (despite the rain), Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 has announced that he will be releasing a new album on Ultra Music entirely of his own productions. Here at EDM Lounge we've been getting you guys previews of these tracks for the past few months, but there are even more surprises than we had thought. >Album Title Goes Here< will feature collaborations with Cypress Hill ("Failbait"), Imogen Heap, Wolfgang Gartner (who always co-produces gold), and Chris James -- and we can't wait to hear them.
