Other than scheduling conflicts, when you combine over one hundred of the world's top DJs over nine intricate stages you get the world's best festival. Dutch promoter ID&T sold this year's edition of Tomorrowland out quick like every year, and it's no wonder, everyone wants to be a part of the world's most prestigious celebration of dance. We hope to see some of you in Belgium this July, but even if you can't make it out it's definitely worth drooling over (or preparing for three days of intense live streaming).

When Movement was originally conceived back in 2000, its goal was to celebrate the roots of electronic music while at the same time showcasing artists who will become major influences in the future. One of the benefactors of this aspect of Movement is Grant Kwiecinski, a.k.a. GRiZ. A Detroit native, Grant incorporates a lot of the Motown sound in his super-funky Electro Soul, and his music brings a distinct human element that seems to be lacking from many electronic music artists today. GRiZ got his start by playing free shows around East Lansing, where he quickly gained a reputation for throwing down some legendary sets. His music was generating a lot of buzz in the Detroit area, so Movement decided to book him last year and see what he could do. Given an opportunity to expose his music to a larger crowd, GRiZ did not disappoint, and word of his talent quickly spread. He went from playing free shows in a small college town to opening for Bassnectar on his fall tour, playing with Big Gigantic on their Uprising Tour, and even headlining his own tour, in less than a year. And he has even more events lined up this summer, as he's is scheduled to play at Electric Forest, headline Global Dance Festival at Red Rocks, and play at Lollapalooza as well.

Success stories like this highlight what makes DEMF such a unique and wonderful festival. By giving an up-and-coming artist with a sound unlike most others a chance to spread his music to new people, Movement gave GRiZ an opportunity to show love and spread love that many other festivals wouldn’t have (the same goes for artists like Deadmau5 and Krewella). And now, thanks to the festival Michigan's own is taking the dance music world by storm. Movement 2013 would not be complete without a set from GRiZ, and his set is scheduled to funk up the Electric Forest stage at 9:40 on Monday. Don't miss it - one day tickets are onsale for $49 and three day passes for $99!

As one of the most overlooked acts producting dance music today, Autoerotique are constantly bringing a fresh, innovative and upbeat sound to all of the music they put out. Today we are so grateful that a new remix has leaked. The original "Radar" by JFK, part of Canadian duo MSTRKRFT, possesses a melodic piano beat that is turned completely upside down by Autoerotique in the best way possible. I'm a serious fan of their style, similar to the likes of Torro Torro, because regardless of how many times their songs are played out at shows and festivals, their sound is one that cannot be replicated. I really can't wait to hear this one live this summer. Grab the free download below, and also keep your eyes peeled for "Asphyxiation" coming out May 28th via Dim Mak records. The video trailer is also below.

Topher Jones' Save Me" had me thoroughly impressed from the start. It's a wonderfully produced track, with some of the best Progressive synth play this side of Kaskade. But after hearing Vanic's remix, I think that the track sounds much better with some meaty Electro flavoring. Although he's been putting out Dubstep remixes as of late, Vanic definitely has some potential with this newly formed Electro sound, so it will be interesting to see what he pushes out after this. In the meantime, grab the download for his remix out now on Ultra.

Everyone's always speculating when the EDM bubble will burst and to me there's always been two likely scenarios: 1. the mainstream appeal eclipses all of the raw aspects of the scene that drew us to it in the first place, effectively destroying it, 2. the politicians shut it down. Which will happen first, I have no idea, and there's bound to be some kind of overlap. Californians are all too aware of the second scenario. The dynamic LA scene immediately dismantled following the death of 15-year old Sasha Rodriguez at EDC 2010, with surprisingly strong opposition even from the liberals.

In January 2011, Democratic assemblywoman Fiona Ma introduced the Anti-Raves Act of 2011 which stipulated high penalties for any event lasting longer than 3.5 hours with prerecorded music. After she realized there were no constitutional grounds for banning a certain type of music, the bill was soon reorganized and signed into law the following fall as the Concert and Music Festival Safety Act which allowed the government to actively assess the threat of any large event held on state property.

With the East Coast scene today at about the same height of popularity that drew such repercussions in LA a few years ago, politicians are inevitably going to get involved. In October a show at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany drew as many as 1500 people, with some of the intoxicated partygoers fighting with police. Following the night's events, a pending lawsuit was filed leading to numerous event cancellations. In March, the Albany Board of Zoning Appeals ruled that the "large dance parties were in direct violation with the venue's zoning."

The board's case relies entirely on semantics, citing the Armory's zoning as an "auditorium," which they insist implies a seated venue, despite there being any legal definition of the word. Yesterday, after months of deliberation, NY Supreme Court Justice Michael Lynch sided with the city zoning board ruling that it was OK for them to ban large dance parties at the Armory. The justice contends "the Court does not find support for (the Armory's) contention that the challenged decision is a content-based restriction. By its terms, the decision is expressly focused on the event's activities, not the content of music." The judge seems to ignore the fact that the majority of the shows at the venue are not "EDM shows," most with standing room general admission. Upcoming shows include Kendrick Lamar and a Roller Derby. Can anyone explain how a Roller Derby works sitting down? No? Thought so.

Artists like MitiS are what make EDM so unique. Originally a classical pianist, Joe Torre crossed over into the electronic genre creating tracks in nearly every subgenre imaginable about two years ago and has been using his musical gift in a beautiful way ever since. His newest single, "Pain," is a delicate drum & bass track - not too overbearing, but still with remarkable attention to detail. The intro is ominous and has an intricately made steady lead to that DnB kick we all live for. MitiS often includes piano in his tracks as well which give a nice contrast to intense bass and kickdrums. Snag this Wednesday pick-me-up and unwind to its levels of crafted bliss.

A killer vocal sample over some of the tightest compresson of any bass track I've heard makes for an exhilarating ride.
It couldn't have been easy to keep his identity as the producer of this track under wraps but Martin Garrix finally came out from behind the curtain as the hands behind Spinnin's latest banger. The track was uploaded as a teaser to the label's channel earlier in the month only to receive massive praise and loads of speculation. Hot off the release of several collabs with everyone from veteran Sidney Samson to newcomer Julian Jordan, Garrix made it clear today that he was after the solo action and attention. In an industry where bangers are a dime a dozen it takes a lot to really get noticed but this will definitely get the job done. We'll update you when the original mix is released.

Bright Lights' vocals over the tried and true twangy Revealed sound turned out to be a surefire hit as Hardwell took to the stage of Ultra Music Festival for the defining set of his career. "Never Say Goodbye" makes up for its somewhat stale backbeat with a truly powerful vocal section from Bright Lights which provides a glossy coating over the sweeping rhythm. Dyro and his mentor wind down the tempo with perfect form before pulling us backwards, unraveling a beat that pops open like a jack-in-the-box. Keep your eyes fixed on Robbert as he advances towards the ultimate coup later this year.
